We’ve all heard of the Avery labels that have become the standard for labelling in many offices today, but did you know that Avery also make a range of paper cutters, trimmers and guillotines? I didn’t, and it turns out that they’re actually really good…
Their extensive collection has solutions for the home, school, office and pretty much for anywhere that needs to cut paper. The range includes cutter sizes from A4 all the way up to A0, and are suitable for photos and crafts, as well as more intensive, heavy duty or everyday work.
This is all very interesting (well, as interesting as papercutting can be anyway), but why would you buy an Avery cutter over any other brand? The answer is simple…. they do what they’re supposed to and they don’t cost the earth. They cut accurately and cleanly, and don’t leave the jagged edges that so many of the others I’ve tried do. This may seem like a very basic reason, and possibly might not even sound like a selling point, but if you’ve ever spent time measuring, drawing and lining up your work, only to make your first cut and find that your trimmer has just ruined it, then you’ll know just how important a selling point that really is.
Luckily for us, Avery popped in the other day and let us have a play. We were quite surprised at the quality of their machines, and we liked them so much that we decided to put our three favourites on special offer until the end of February, and here they are…
Aimed at the home user, this rotary paper trimmer will cleanly cut up to 5 sheets of A4 paper at a time using a stainless steel, self sharpening blade. It’s simple, small and light, but still feels like a quality bit of kit. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the price tag, and if they didn’t let me keep the demo model, I’d have actually bought one for myself.
This one is a bit more specialist due to it’s cutting length of 1370mm. To put that into perspective, it’s about 4’6” tall, which is the same height as my 10 year son. It also has a lockable backstop for easy and accurate repeat cutting, an automatic clamp to prevent your paper slipping, commonly used templates etched into the steel baseboard, and a self sharpening, stainless steel blade which is strong and sharp enough to cut up to 15 sheets of paper per pass. If you need to cut large sizes of paper, then this is the paper trimmer for you.
We really liked this one, not only because it is effectively a self sharpening, hardened steel machete that has been securely bolted to a steel base loaded with safety features, but also because it cuts paper really well and isn’t too expensive. It feels heavy and well made, cuts up to 15 sheets easily and has a built in locking mechanism to prevent paper slippage. The lever arm guillotine allows you to more accurately see where the blade is actually cutting and, on top of all this, the noise it makes as you slice through the paper is strangely therapeutic.
If you want to know more about any of Avery’s cutting machines, or any type of office machine, then please have a look at our main website, www.a1stores.co.uk, or give us a ring on 0800 0141 752. We’d love to talk to you.
