New eco rules on office equipment
New rules aimed at making office equipment more energy-efficient - and saving businesses money on their bills - have come into force from this month onwards.
As part of the EU-US Energy Star Programme, America and Europe have their eyes particularly on the computers, copiers, fax machines and multifunction machines filling the world's workplaces.
HP has already revealed that its Officejet 6500 all-in-one series uses up to 40 per cent less power than other printers.
And experts advise choosing machines that automatically go into sleep mode when they aren't being used.
The good news is most modern printers and multifunction machines are already designed to lower workers' paper consumption by printing on both sides of a page.
